I really wanted to this video since it has been so long since I edited a drama where Yamapi acts in. At first I couldn’t find any suitable topic because it’s such an easy going love story. By watching Buzzer Beat I did get fragments of ideas which I pieced together in this OPV [Original Promotion Video]. It ended up being a parody, a comedy video if you will. The 7 steps of Buzzer Beat refer to the amount of themes I’ve managed to push over the edge.

Title: 7 steps to Buzzer Beat
Used footage: Buzzer Beat, Fuji tv getsu 9 drama, summer 2009. Additionally a scene from Natgeo’s “The Universe” series for the rocket.
Score: Read the roll off titles at the end, there are just too many used.
File details: RAW 706 x 396, in the following versions:

Divx 1 pass quality based (2)

Xvid 4030 Kbps

MPEG2 4000 Kbps

FOLLOWING DESCRIPTION CONTAINS SPOILERS!

And here is a short description for the 7 steps of Buzzer Beat.

Step 1: Cavemen; exaggerated agression [Basketball scenes]. I got this idea because I was still listening to Humanaut by Mnemic while starting up an episode of Buzzer Beat. The opening for Buzzer Beat just happened to match the “lift off” feeling of this song.

Step 2: Satan. I always thought Yoyogi was a creepy guy. The little beard just made it all the worse. It didn’t take long to match that with Stephen Lynch’ BEELZ.

Step 3: Betrayal. Here we see Naoki walking in on Yoyogi and Natsuki. From there on I gave Naoki some spunk by using Revolucian – Bale out. The way Naoki SHOULD have reacted.

Step 4: Meaningful male dialogue. Secretly I made this because Yamapi said “this and this dialogue is very interesting” (gehehe). This one came into play when I was looking over my music collection for really crude dialogue. I found it in Crotchduster.

Step 5: Anticlimax. Where would Buzzer Beat be without the blooming romance between Naoki and Riko? I’m so not good at doing sappy editing, so you’ll just have to forgive me for making a prank.

Step 6: Meaningful female dialogue. I figured, if I were going to do a “male dialogue” I would also need to do a female dialogue. Since I am neither genders but an alien, I thought the pranks should be equally shared.

Step 7: P-Cup ω to Strauss. That’s right! I edited all the yummy Yamapi “in the shower, in the bath tub, squeezing tits” scenes together on nothing other than classical music. A fancy rack like that deserves some fancy music.

My third comedy video to date and the second pairing video (if you don’t count Kurosagi). This one actually came together by request. I’ve loaned my webdesign/ coding skills to lovesongforums.net to create a site called Hanbun. The site is a tribute to TomaPi (and fans). The administrator of this forum asked me to do a Tomapi video, so I did!

This video actually has an entire story told in about 3 minutes. Yamapi likes Toma, so he confesses it by giving Toma a letter. At first Toma is completely bewildered, he doesn’t know what to do! After consulting himself, he does find out he feels the same. This moment of hesitation has Yamapi doubting his motivation. From there on, the video has an open ending… so Tomapi fans can think up their own ending (hah).

By far the best parts in this fanvideo are ‘the bathroom incident’ and ‘the cut and replace Maki pun’. Maki’s face would have been visible in a frame rounded with flowers and I basically replaced this with Yamapi’s face from Proposal Daisakusen. The bathroom incident is where Toma goes into the bathroom only to find Yamapi sitting there bathing. Originally this was Maki’s character in Hanazakari taking a shower. Cut-And-Replace = instant comedy magic.

The technically most challenging part was getting three way split screens timed ‘on-beat’. It’s pretty difficult to do because the effects require some insight on how to arrange them on the timeline.

I have longed to do a Nobuta wo Produce OPV for as long as I can remember, but I could never find befitting songs for it. In the end I found two and edited them together…

Title: Kusano Akira’s True Drug..
Used footage: Nobuta wo Produce
Score:
Afroman – Because I got high
Bachman Turner Overdrive – You ain’t seen nothing yet.
Minor sound effects:
Lordi – SCG3 Special Report
Type 0 Negative – Bad Ground.
File Details: XVID, MP3 (128 kbps), 38mb, 03:32
Subtitles: None yet.
Check availability

First Skit: Afroman
This should be crystal. Anyone who has seen Nobuta wo Produce will match Akira with that really doped up behaviour. The music itself is pretty slow and therefor difficult to handle without getting boring. I’ve tried to get around that by using screensplits; which was a first time edit for me. It turned out well. The song itself is very suitable up until a certain point lyric-wise, so that’s why it’s cut at about 1:16. It continues with comments about loss of job, etc. Something that is not associated with Akira.

Second skit: You ain’t seen nothing yet
What made Akira like he is? Shuuuuuuuuji-kun!
I actually picked the song by Bachman because as soon as the chorus started in a blink of an eye it was Shuuji’s “Bye Bye Bicycle” rolling in my head.

I didn’t really intend to make a Shuuji x Akira video but while searching for the perfect scene to put in between these “Bye Bye Bicycles” Akira just pulled the right face. And who can really resist pasting scenes like these together:

All in all, I had a mighty good time editing. The last screen as usual, is the editor’s window. I’ve used about 6 layers at it’s peak points.

Note: By release date of this video only 4 episodes were out they are the only sources used.

My favourite moment in the video is probably the exchange of looks at around 01:14. The co-starring actress in episode 1 is brilliant.

Deepest Blue is actually a video for our birthday boy Yamashita Tomohisa. He’s celebrating his birthday in april this year. I know it’s a bit early! I rarely have the chance to make these videos so I spent time on it now. Every Yamapi fan will definetly enjoy this video. So please download!
You can see him growing up in that video. From chibi P to buff P. yay! So anyways, I’ve made some really cool transitions in there where he gets a few years older every time. For that, I’ve used material from a science fiction movie called “The Sphere”. I was crazy about that movie. Other sources are Shounen Club episodes, small part of the fancam Happy News Year 2005 and some lives of Shuuji & Akira, NewS on Music Station.
And here’s some comments on the process: What pain! What anguish! The many liters of coffee! This video has been done in 2 days but it still took me 12 hours total. I’ve limited the damage the large number of video sources can do to viewing pleasure as much as possible. Oh and.. please, if you don’t know how to encode videos please do not do it! I’ve had several issues with source videos without proper keyframing etc. -shotgun-
